Metallic-Coated Steel Wire for Chain-Link Fence Fabric & Marcelled Tension Wire by ASTM International

This standard covers metallic-coated carbon steel wire for chain-link fence fabric and marcelled tension wire production. It includes three coating types: Type I (aluminized), Type II (galvanized), and Type III (zinc-aluminum-mischmetal alloy-coated), and five coating classes: Class 3, Class 4, Class 5, Class 60, and Class 100. It excludes wire for chain-link fences coated post-weaving. The wire's steel rod must be manufactured via open-hearth, electric-furnace, or basic-oxygen processes. The wire is cold-drawn and metallic-coated at its final size to achieve specified mechanical properties like breaking strength. Type I and III coatings use a hot-dip process, while Type II can use hot-dip or electrolytic processes. Type I coating's aluminum must meet copper and iron impurity limits.
